For most, this bit of news might just fly under their radar, but for me it’s the end of an era. I’ve been a long-time user of this product, from way back in 1995. It was called Office 95 then. Running on my then brand new Windows 95. It was a game changer for me. I’ve stopped using WordStar once I’ve started using Microsoft Word and I’ve stopped using Lotus 1-2-3 once I’ve started using Microsof Excel. The good old days.
So imagine my surprise, as an Office 365 subscriber, when I received this email last 3rd of April:
The Office brand has been around for a long time and I believe it has built enough of a goodwill and awareness that there is no need for a change. Not sure what Microsoft is thinking. Anyway, as long as it still remains good and useful, it should be fine. Again, not a lot of you will complain or even notice this, but for an old school geek like me, this is a big deal.
Office, you will be missed. Actually, I might still call you Office even if you’re already Microsoft 365.
